Field Trip Recap: Exploring Textile Production in the Mühlviertel

Last week, students from the department textil.kunst.design from the University of Art and Design Linz took a field trip to the Mühlviertel region to visit local textile companies. Once known for its rich linen tradition, the area now hosts a wide range of textile production. From rope making and traditional weaving to bedding and even fire hose manufacturing, there was a wide range of textile techniques to discover.

Rethinking textile waste’, a large network meeting took place on Friday, 14 March 2025 at the Textile Centre Haslach, to which representatives from industry, crafts, design and universities were invited. Following the network meeting, a three-day expert workshop with invited craftspeople and designers took place at the Textile Centre Haslach.

Creative craft for industrial symbiosis in circular economies

The Textile Centre Haslach is part of an EU Interreg project that focuses on circular economy and the recycling of textile waste. It aims to make textile waste generated in industry available as a resource for craft and design processes and to use it to create new products by professional artisans.
